Can the early home pregnancy tests give false negatives when you are late with your period?

I am 2 days late and I know that I ovulated. I've taken 2 tests and both negative. I have cramps off and on and sore breasts .Can the early home pregnancy tests give false negatives when you are late with your period?

1) What is called ';late period';: If you have a very regular cycle (i.e. 28-26-27-28-26) then ';late'; is 3 days longer than the longest cycle in the last 12 months. If you have a medium regular cycle (i.e. 28-31-27-26-31) then ';late'; is not earlier than 5 days after the longest cycle in the last 12 months.

thye can, but you are only two days late. preg is not the only reason for late periods, there's stress, being around different women, changes in diet, etc
