I've heard some people say they think people who falsely accuse others of rape should be tortured and killed. Yet people who rape others aren't tortured and killed-they're sent to prison. Why would some people think a crime of a false rape accusation would be worse than the crime of rape?Who do some people think a false accusation of rape is a more serious crime than rape?
They value men much more highly than women - that is all I can think of.
I really cannot imagine that there are droves of men who have done time and been totally abused because of a false allegation - most REAL allegations go nowhere, so I don't see how it is possible to get a false one to stick.
Liam: I have to say most men do not lose friends and family when they HAVE raped. A friend of mine was raped by her half brother and he got a life sentence for rape, incest and attempted murder. BUT her mother told her that she should be dead because there was no was that she was going to have anymore to do with her, as she had had her son put away.
The jury convicted on 10 instead of 12 because he made such a good impression. Then his previous convictions werre read out....

God, this should not be a question of misogyny/misandry. It is quite offensive how people seem to be dismissing an intentionally false accusation of rape as completely harmless. Obviously incomparable to rape itself, but it's still a terrible thing to do.

This is so one sided it's disgusting. I'm a woman and know what it's like to be the victim but I've also seen a man I love endure a false accusation and all the consequences. He lost almost everything that mattered.You may not believe that women would destroy a mans life like that but it happens.

With your logic, why should non violent rape be punished at all? it's merely a mental crime right? By making a false claim you make that person have to register as sex offender for life
cannot vote cannot possess a gun very little employment... in way it is a rape of their life.

I don't know why they think that, but I bet if they get raped (yes, guys can be raped too) or their mother/sister/daughter gets raped, they'll change their tone real quick (though I don't wish rape on even my worst enemy)
One of my friends had been raped and can never have children because of the damage he did to her (she was only 12 at the time), a ruined reputation can never compare to something like the effects of rape.
I can't imagine what kind of person would think anyone should be tortured and killed for anything.
Falsely accusing someone of rape is a serious offense and a crime, I is front page when accused but not as big a story when proved false. Lives are shattered.
The only instance I can think of, where the accusation of rape was truly a serious crime, was the La Crosse players who were accused, in an obvious blackmail attempt.
Then they were called racists by Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al, made a big racial issue of it, the boys were expelled, their coach fired for defending them, and their lives and careers were damaged. The only satisfaction they and their loved-ones got, was that the over-zealous prosecutor was fired.
The lying crack-ho who accused them, never got in any trouble for false-reporting.
As someone who was falsely accused of a similiar offense, I know that the accusation can affect your life, nearly as bad as a conviction could. And men really have no recourse in these matters, as they are automatically guilty of sexual offenses.

Yes, a false accusation is very serious but I don't think any crime is worse than rape, because it's a violation and one you and your family/friends/partner have to live with for the rest of your life not to mention the possibility of serious physical and psychological injury, STDs including HIV/AIDS and unwanted pregnancy. In some communities the woman is even treated as a criminal or loses her reputation over it.
A false accusation...the man may have to fight to get his reputation back...unpleasant yes, but it hardly compares.
in truth, 95% of rapists are walking free. it is THE MOST underreported crime of all.
there are few ';innocent men'; in jail as my brother, the corrections officer, will point out or any research can tell you. are there innocent men in jail? yes. in fact, many are black. but i dont see these guys coming to their defense.
many times the woman, being in such a frightening circumstance, can not identify the rapist properly. she was raped, but she did not identify the proper person %26amp; years later DNA proves him innocent. these cases are not THAT common.

i think they're bitter, defensive guys who say this. otherwise, they would stand up for women (also framed) and minorities if their concern was purely for ';false allegations'; and not woman-bashing.
Two reasons: ignorance and a bad attitude.
If in some cases charges are not proved,they are deemed false cases but it does not mean that the offense of rape was not committed at all.
It's vindictive and cruel, and the ever varying opinions of people throughout the world are bound to create different opinions of which is worse. I'm sure the people you are reffering to don't think rape is fine, just that accusing someone of rape when it never happened is truly horrible. While rape is firstly physical then emotional, accusing someone of rap is first emotional, then followed by physcial abuse when the girls families, police, or other inmates beat them up, or maybe something worse. A man also accused of rape is likely to lose their job or career, their families would turn their backs on them, their wife and kids will not want to know them. A rape victim will still have their family and friends and job. Not that I think its worse but thats the point of view.
Ellesar W, if a guy has gone to prison due to being falsely accused, then there is no way anyone will believe he was falsely accused, but it happens. It's just unfortunate that any statistics on false accusation and mistaken prison sentencing can never exist because the accused will always deny it and the law will always defend their original decision.
While the trauma caused by rape is largely emotional, so is the trauma caused by a false accusation. If a man values his position in is local community and cares for the people within it, then some jealous women accuses them of rape, his whole life will be turned around. If I was accused of rape and people believed it and as a result I was chased out of my family, my circle of friends and my home town, I don't think I would want to be alive for another minute. I also know of plenty of gay men who have took the law into their own hands and raped men for beating women up, if instead of beating someone up they were accused of rape, then there are people in the world who would make sure that innocent guy knew what it was like. That might not sound likely and maybe it's because I live just 7 miles away from a gay area, but there are rough, criminal gay men all over the world who wouldn't give such punishment a second thought.

It might sound like I am upholding such a view that it is worse than rape, i'm not, I just can't believe that people see that being accused of rape is not even close to rape itself. People who say the accusation is worse are not just talking about it as if it is a bit of name calling, they are talking about the result of that accusation, which would be a violent, most likely bloody and bone braking, and utterly and emotinally devistating. Even if people don't think the emotinal side quite compares, what about losing their job, family, friends, wife, children, the respect of anyone that knows them, their home town, maybe their life (whether someone else takes it or they take it away themselves).
Ellesar W again, I get that, but some people accused of rape DO lose everything. The woman accusing someone of rape would most likely do it in the hope that the man will lose everything.
When I hear exaggerations of that type, I have to assume that the person who would harm someone for making a false report has reason to fear that someone will make a report on them. Maybe they have left themselves open to a charge of rape by having sex with someone who is drunk or menatlly slow or they kept going when she said no, you know, they are a rapist. These people are thinking like criminals, they must be one.

Because a lot of men seem to think that when something bad happens to them, it's a far bigger deal than if something bad happens to a woman.
