What is the best way to stop false rumours about you?

I am currently still at secondary school and although I have lots of friends I seem to be the centre of every single random rumor at the moment. What should I do?What is the best way to stop false rumours about you?
First, often times when people become the focus of some inappropriate behavior like the spreading of rumors, it indicates that people have some kind of anger or, at the very least, perceived negativity toward the person in question. Be honest with yourself: have you done anything to offend others? Is there any unresolved conflict between you and others? This may be the source of the rumor-spreading. You MUST be honest with yourself about this. If it is true, your denying it is not going to help. Work to resolve any unaddressed issues you have with your colleagues, as hard as that might be. At the very least, apologize for your transgressions and from now on, start living from a place of deep integrity. Don't spread rumors of your own, don't talk about others, especially behind their backs, and refrain from judging others. Take the high road in life and once you demonstrate your integrity, people will catch on and stop spreading those rumors. After all of this, even if they don't stop, don't worry. You will have done your part to change and be a humble, respectful person. Move forward with your life, and do your best to put the negative people aside. As the saying goes, ';What you think about me is none of my business!';What is the best way to stop false rumours about you?
A lot of people would tell you to try and confront the person who started it, but that's not wise as it may just cause more problems. As the other answer stated, attempt to undermine that rumor with the truth of the situation. If you have friends, or anyone who was present when the event in said rumor occurred, include their names in it.

It all depends on the rumor, what was said, what was done... and what the person or people have said was done.

It also helps to not make yourself a target for rumors. Don't put yourself in compromising situations.
i know how you feel. i just found out that someone i considered a friend spread a rumour about me.

and personally, the best way to deal with it, is to question people who know it.

like, if the rumour says you were doing someything weird at the mall on tuesday, then strike a conversation with someone and tell them something that happened on Tuesday. ';Oh my God, my cat made a mess on Thursday and i had to clean all day!'; ';Hey, did you see that movie, ----? I saw it on Tuesday; it was ok i guess.';

Get it? Inform them with something informative, so that in the end, they know the rumour is false.

=)
Just keep your head down and ignore the rumours. People make stuff up about others when they have nothing better to do and have their own insecurities. School is full of rumours. Just take it on the chin and in the long run it will make you a stronger person. Just laugh it off :D x
what kind of rumors

bad ones?

start spreading it around to a few key people that that is a lie
