How long will Senate Democrats maintain their false indignation charade over the appointment of Roland Burris?

Burris himself is clean, Hot Rod is still legally governor. Why all of the delay in seating someone who would get appointed by Rod Blagojevich's successor anyway in the event the later finally resigns or gets impeached?

Democracy is not about one man, be he President or Governor. It is about the collective will of the citizens expressed through both the executive and legislative branches.





Governor Blagojevich has been charged with a misprision of office with regard to this matter, and has been asked not to appoint someone. he has been warned by his own State Senate that they will take action if he does to void any such appointment. It is pretty clear what the expressed will of the majority of the citizens want as well.





The indignation felt by Senators, both Democrat and Republican, is that the Governor acted against the will of his constituents. Mr. Burris should have known better than to accept, and his lack of understanding calls his qualifications into question.





Sometimes the issues and reactions are real and valid. You should respect that, and be glad that at least one of our national parties deals with such accusations openly. Compare this to the denial and delay of Delay.





The Democrats look better at this point than the Republicans. It would be in all our interests if both parties reacted as well.
Gov Blagojevich is ';innocent until proven guilty.'; But when a guard catches a bank robber in the act, should the guard let him complete the robbery because he's ';innocent until proven guilty?';





Gov Blagojevich was caught in the act of auctioning off that Senate seat. Consequently the bids have gone way down. Burris got the appointment just by being the only politician stupid and corrupt enough to accept it. But seating him in the senate would be like allowing the bank robber to complete his robbery.





By the way, Burris is anything but ';clean.'; When he was Illinois Attorney General, Burris tried to have an innocent man executed. His Assistant Attorney General resigned in protest. The prosecutor and police were later tried for criminal misconduct (but unfortunately acquited). Burris also should have been tried (and convicted) of ciminal misconduct. Burris is morally bankrupt.





I stand corrected. I just read that Burris said, ';they will not be able to deny what the Lord has ordained.'; Surely God would not ordain a crook.
It has to be a smokescreen to keep people from thinking about other things, they have no legal standing, and there is no evidence that Burris has done anything wrong. Except possibly that Blagovich claims he has Harry Reid on tape saying he doesn't want a black candidate for that office, and Blago may have appointed Burris just to irritate Reid. I expect Blago will resign in return for full pardon, then go on to be a talk show or news analyst for CNN or something. Good thing no one is paying attention to Charlie Rangel paying parking tickets with campaign funds and telling AIG to make a donation to the school being built with his name on it (that sort of thing is what paid for the Clinton library) while his committee was debating bailing out AIG. It's all just theatre and makes no difference, bread and circuses, that's all.
i think the Dem's should have tried to seat burris and let the Republicans try not to seat him. this looks very bad for the Dem's. changing or over looking the law...burris IS the junior senator from Illinois, legally, period.


it just goes to show you that in reality there is not much difference between the two parties, it is all about the power, the nation and the law be damned.
Ol' Blagojevich knows that anyone he looks at the wrong way will be ';tainted'; along with him. Methinks he's fishing for a pardon from Obama, inasmuch as Burris was Obama's rival for Senate. Rod's tainted touch would almost guarantee that Burris wouldn't make it, and Obama knows that too. It's like, he'll keep his rival from office if he can get off. Hmm...
You have no idea if he is clean or not - the facts aren't in.....





I am GLAD he was denied and if he had the sense God gave a goose he would have rejected Rod' offer to appoint him and wait for the appropriate appointment.





This is an indication he is a complete idiot!
Burris is a great choice. He's scrupulously clean, competent and too old to run after his two year term. Blago is running rings around his detractors (which include just about everyone).





Hat's off to our Governor, the 3rd out of our last 5 to win a Federal indictment..
How do we know that Burris is clean? How do we know that he did not get involved with the bidding for the senate seat? If he was clean and had nothing to worry about, then he would be willing to wait until the dust settles...then put his name in the hat for the position.

Burris is an idiot. His foolish actions make a mockery of the entire process. There should be an open election.
